Padar Island is one of the most iconic destinations in Komodo National Park. I visited the island during a trip to Labuan Bajo, and the view from the top was easily one of the highlights of the journey.
Getting to Padar Island
Padar Island is usually visited as part of a boat trip from Labuan Bajo. Most tours leave early in the morning and include several stops around Komodo National Park. Once you arrive at Padar Island, you’ll need to hike up to the viewpoint to see the famous landscape.
The Hike to the Viewpoint
The hike to the main viewpoint is relatively short, but the stairs and heat can make it more tiring than it looks. There are several viewpoints along the way, so you can stop, rest, and enjoy the scenery as you climb. Comfortable shoes and water are definitely recommended.
The View from the Top
Reaching the top is absolutely worth the effort. From the viewpoint, you can see Padar Island’s unique curved bays, rugged hills, and surrounding blue water all in one panorama. Seeing this landscape in person was even more impressive than I expected from photos.
Tips for Visiting Padar Island
- Bring enough water, especially if you visit during the hotter part of the day.
- Wear comfortable shoes with good grip for the climb.
- Bring sunscreen and a hat, as there is very little shade on the trail.
- Take your time on the way up and stop at the viewpoints along the trail.
- If possible, visit earlier in the day to avoid the strongest heat.
Is Padar Island Worth Visiting?
Yes, absolutely. Padar Island was one of the most memorable places I visited during my trip to Labuan Bajo. The hike takes some effort, especially in the heat, but the panoramic view from the top makes it completely worthwhile. If you are visiting Komodo National Park for the first time, Padar Island is one place I would definitely recommend including in your trip.
